About Snug
Why Is It Called Snug?
The word 'snug' describes something comfortable, compact, and neatly fitted. That feels appropriate for what Snug is trying to do.
A Java application can involve quite a few moving parts: JAR files, Java runtimes, launchers, icons, metadata, splash screens, and configuration. Snug packages the application and launcher settings into a single Windows executable; the Java runtime is provided separately.
The name also reflects the experience Snug is intended to create: the person using the application should not need to think about Java, runtimes, classpaths, or how the application was packaged. They should be able to double-click the application and get on with their work.
In that sense, Snug wraps the technical details around the application so that everything fits neatly together.
Compact, neatly packaged, and comfortable to use.
